Common SID and ANGEL

Students log in for class at the ANGEL domain of the college where the student registered.
WAOL systems automatically place students into the correct college domain.

Our college system has implemented a common, or universal, student ID (SID), which means that a student may be registered into courses at one school using an SID from another school.  This has raised some questions about how student accounts are managed in the WAOL ANGEL system.  See the Support section below for more details.

A few points:

  •  College staff may notice SIDs from outside the normal ranges assigned to their schools.  This isn't a problem and is how Common SID functions - a student will use the same SID at all schools in our system.
  • Students will login for online classes at the ANGEL domain of the school where they registered.  eLearning staff will see them in the ANGEL Account Manager.

Support

Case:        The student’s ANGEL account is in a different domain than her current quarter enrollments. (We see 20 - 30 students in a quarter that fall into this case.)

Process:   WAOL systems move the account to the enrolling college ANGEL domain.  The same process is used for WAOL Shared course enrollments: The student accounts are placed in the domain of the enrolling college.

Case:       The student’s account is enrolled in courses at two or more schools in one quarter.  (Typically a handful of students in the entire system fit this case.)

Process:  WAOL systems move the account to the top-level in ANGEL.  This will allow the student to login via any college ANGEL domain.

Notes:

  • Accounts are moved after the prior quarter has ended.  There may be overlap between some schools and quarters, in which case an edit is delayed until the prior quarter course has ended.
  • In all cases and all events, students see and have access to all of their courses – no matter which domain they use to login.
  • Colleges using the Portal to ANGEL Single Sign On can login any student found in the college's SMS.

If colleges using WAOL ANGEL have questions or issues with student access to their courses, please contact the WAOL office:  wa-online@ctc.edu  or  888-580-9011

ANGEL Tech Fee Billing

No change to the billing process: It's based as before on active, enrolled accounts in each school domain. (The few multiple-school-enrolled students are billed to each school where they're actively enrolled.)
