Getting Online: Setting up Internet Access

To allow your computer to talk to your instructor's computer and to those of fellow students, you will need Internet access and a live phone line. This section covers your basic Internet access needs.

Choosing an Internet Service Provider: What to consider when choosing an ISP:

  • Cost (anywhere from free to $40 or so a month)
  • Connection speed and reliability
  • Technical support

Free Internet Service

You can download free Internet service provider software from Yahoo with a free e-mail account by clicking on the above link. Note: If you choose a free Internet Service you may have to deal with advertising.

Note: If you are using a company-provided computer, you may already have Internet access and an e-mail account assigned to you. Do not download a new e-mail system.

Other Internet Services

Note: When you click on the URLs below they will open in a new browser window. To return to this course close the new browser window by clicking on the X (close) button at the upper right corner.

Earthlink, MSN

Local Internet Providers might be good choices, as well. Check the Yellow Pages under "Internet Service."
