WAOL Shared Course Procedures for Instructors

WashingtonOnline manages both courses that we call private—where the students and the instructor are all at the same college—and courses that we call shared—where the students and the instructor will be from many colleges.  Private courses work pretty much like any regular college course, but we have had to develop several policies to make sure the shared courses work no matter which college the instructor or student comes from.

Instructors Teaching Shared Courses must

  • Use the WAOL start-stop dates
  • Use the books and materials designated by the lead instructor
  • Use WAOL web-grading
  • Use the WAOL title of the course in the classroom (not English 102, but English Composition I, for instance)
  • Never give students permission to overload their section or transfer from another section

These rules go for any course where the students and instructors are not all affiliated with a single college.
