The workshop series (including three face to face meetings and online work) will be led by Landmark College trainers, experts in instructional design for students with learning differences and difficulties. It is open ONLY to faculty nominated by Program Directors and approved by SBCTC-ABE staff. Please contact Susan Kidd at skidd@sbctc.edu if you have questions.

Learning Standards 101 is a three week online course designed for teachers and program directors with minimal knowledge of the Washington Adult Learning Standards. The course is designed to build a basic understanding the Learning Standards with a goal of implementing Learning Standards in instruction. The pilot was run fall 2010. This five week, fully online orientation is designed to complement face-to-face new instructor orientations happening on campuses around the state.

This course is designed to provide online instructors with principles and best practices for online teaching. This 3-week course is asynchronous, entirely online, and is all about online pedagogy, including the implementation of instructional design principles in the online teaching environment.

[IMPORTANT] All system faculty are welcome to take this course. However you do need to be familiar with course management systems in order to take this class. This course uses Angel as a platform, but will not teach you how to use ANGEL applications (Please register for WAOL Faculty Training in Angel if you wish to learn Angel applications). You do not need to use Angel as your course management system on your campus to take this course, but we highly recommend you to have a moderate level of understanding in using Angel for your comfort during the training. WAOL offers a three week online intermediate training course, free of charge, to faculty currently active within the Washington Community College system. This course is designed for instructors who have taught one or more quarters using ANGEL, feel comfortable with the basics and are now looking for tips and techniques for doing more with the toolset.
