Netiquette
Internet etiquette ("Netiquette") involves rules of the road in communicating with fellow learners online. When we send an e-mail message, we are sending out a written first impression of ourselves to those who receive our message.

In order to make a good first impression, it is important to know the rules of communicating by e-mail and on the Internet.
  • DON'T YELL. Writing messages in all capital letters is seen as yelling in the electronic world. It is not often appreciated.

  • Spamming is sending out advertising to people to try to get business. In the electronic world Spam is the same thing as junk mail.

You can have a little fun with your e-mail by using smiley faces :-) But never forget one last important point:

Never write anything in e-mail that you wouldn't write on a postcard and drop in the mail.

E-mail is not private. This is especially important to remember at work. Just because you have a password on your account, that does not mean your employer does not have access to it. Just because you delete a message does not mean it is not stored on the mail server somewhere. Do not think your e-mail is private. So be careful what you write.
